Silver City - Places to go - Things to do

If you've never been to Silver City it would be hard to imagine how unique, fun, and just downright enjoyable this town actually is. Hopefully this website does our little city justice and shows that this is the most happen'n place in the southwest.

For starters, Silver City is basically a college town with a strong arts community. The population is largely comprised of hippies, cowboys, and motorcycle junkies, all of whom, amazingly enough, get along like old friends. In fact, this is one of the most friendly places on earth, people here are just plain nice. And if that's not enough, we're in the desert so we don't have hurricanes, tidal waves, sharks, and (gloriously) no termites. But, Silver City is in the mountains at 5,900 feet so we also don't have blistering hot days, sand storms, or mile upon mile of boringly flat sand dunes. As a matter of fact, we're surrounded by some of the most spectacular pine forests you'll find.

When you get right down to it, Silver City is in about as ideal a location in climate and geography as any you'll find anywhere. Speaking of which, where exactly is it? Silver City, or just "Silver" as many of us call it, is located in the Southwest part of New Mexico about two hours from Las Cruces. Our town started out as a silver mining community and was home to such notables as Geronomo and Billy the Kid.

Rather than detailing all the biographical facts, here's a set of other local sites you can follow to find out more. Each offers a wealth of links to explore. Happy surfing, hope to see you around town.
